I am a consultant Child, Youth & Family psychiatrist with nearly 30 years’ experience as a clinician. I have worked with children and young people of all ages, with parents, carers and family members in a variety of service settings (inpatient, outpatient and community) and across the diagnostic spectrum of mental health conditions affecting children, young people and their families.
I have also held positions in mental health policy & leadership, training & consultancy, service development and research. I have ongoing membership of a number of international collaborative networks and colleges.
My particular interests include mood disorders (depression, anxiety, OCD), self-harm, trauma and the interplay between psychological symptoms and parenting, ADHD and early psychosis. I have worked extensively with families where one or more individuals experience mental ill-health and my approach is to find ways to enhance resilience, coping and recovery for the whole family.
I hold a strong belief in the value of working in partnership. This integrated approach to treatment is based on shared expertise – both professional expertise and lived experience expertise.
This strengths-based collaborative practice is supported by a conceptual framework known as The Family Model, which facilitates integration of evidence-informed psychological, pharmacological, family and lifestyle interventions to promote recovery and relapse prevention.
Dr Falkov works Monday afternoons, Fridays (telehealth only) and Saturdays.
