Child Youth and Family Psychiatrist

MD, MMed(Syd Uni), MPsych(NSWIOP), FRANZCP, Adv Cert Child Adol Psych

I am an Australian trained Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with experience across both the public and private sectors. My roles have included senior staff specialist at Royal North Shore Community Health Centre, staff specialist at Outreach Service for Children and Adolescents covering several hospitals and community services across Northern Sydney Local Health District and visiting medical officer at Northside Clinic. I was also a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney. Throughout this time, I trained many psychiatry registrars and advanced trainees, not only as part of my job but also as a long-standing passion of mine.
In 2017 I moved my private practice from Northside Clinic to the Family Talks Clinic which I founded to create an environment specifically dedicated to family orientated psychiatry and psychology. In 2022, I resigned from the public sector to dedicate my time and energy to Family Talks Clinic and to be able to be more flexible with my own young family. In addition to consulting at Family Talks Clinic, I supervise young specialists endeavouring to join private practice and medical students training to become GPs.
Over the years, I have learnt that understanding the family as a unit, with all its cultural, social, and personal complexities, is paramount in helping a young person move towards recovery. It is easy to give people a diagnostic label, but extremely difficult to understand them as individuals within a complex unit called a “family”. This is why I have spent over a decade learning and engaging with one of the international pioneers of family therapy, Professor Maurizio Andolfi.
I assess and treat a broad range of mental health conditions for children and adolescents from the ages of 6 years to 18years. However, depending on individual circumstances, I may also consult with young adults who are over the age of 18yrs.
My areas of interest include ADHD, depression, OCD, anxiety, emotional instability, eating disorders and high functioning autism.
