Dr Sandy Jusuf

I work as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the public and private sectors. I am passionate about equitable access to healthcare for everyone and to improve our whole health system. I am based at the Child and Youth Mental Health Service at Brookvale Community Health Centre in my public appointment.
Being of Chinese background and born in Germany, gives me a unique perspective on transcultural barriers, intergenerational issues and prejudices experienced in many areas (family, friendships, school, work, and the wider community).
Most family issues are caused by multiple factors, including but not limited to genetic, social, psychological, and cultural factors. I do not believe in labels and prefer to work holistically with the whole family. Using a strengths-based approach, I like to empower the child and their family to fine-tune things to improve their circumstances/condition.
My key areas of speciality are with autism and young children. I see anyone up to 14 years old. I have experience and expertise in family therapy, psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. I draw on a combination of these to individualise my management for each patient and their family.
I bring experience from outside the mental health field (emergency medicine, leadership, Australian Institute of Company Directors) which has contributed to a broader understanding of life for me.
