Dr Sean Mahon-Daly

I am a Child and Family Psychiatrist with a keen interest in working with young persons and their families.
I studied medicine in Tasmania and later trained within NSW in various hospitals in North Shore and the Central Coast. After working and training as a junior doctor within emergency departments and surgical wards, I switched lanes and specialised in Psychiatry, finding a particular passion working with children and their families. I later completed additional sub-speciality training in Childhood and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Who I see:
I have a particular interest working with children/adolescents (ages 5-18) who are managing with:
– Anxiety and mood disorders
– School related difficulties (e.g. learning difficulties, attendance issues)
– Family relationship difficulties
– Autism and attention disorder
I am also trained in assessing adults, and have capacity to review adults on a case by case basis. I have special interests in parents with young children, adulthood ADHD, anxiety and mood disorders.

My process:
During the assessment phase, I conduct a comprehensive mental health assessment, usually over two or more interviews. We develop a management plan together that best suits your needs.
During the treatment phase, medication may be discussed, and I also discuss the importance of non-medication treatments: psychological therapy, optimisation of physical health and reviewing family/social/occupational domains of your life. I coordinate treatment with other practitioners (e.g. GPs, therapists), as evidence shows medication works best in combination with other non-pharmacological treatments and when clinicians communicate with each other.
